Born in Beijing in 1964, he entered the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1980 to study painting,
and graduated from Studio 1 of the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine
Arts in 1988, where he studied with Jin Shangyi and Yang Feiyun. As early as his first year in
college, he showed his talent by creating "Studio 140", which won him an award in the "China
Youth Art Exhibition in Progress". In the mid-1980s, Li Guijun also joined the wave of Chinese
modern art, but for him, he did not have the life experience of the Cultural Revolution and the
youth, nor did he have the curiosity of exoticism, so painting people of this era became his self-
chosen and independent artistic path.
Since the 1990s, "contemporary interpretation of the beauty of women" has gradually formed Li
Guijun's painting style. He pursued ideal and simple images in a way that transcended life, and
"adolescent girls" became a prominent theme image during this period.
Entering the new century, Li Guijun uses art to connect with the humanistic context of the
classical period in history, that is, the language of painting is a creative expression of the
brilliance and exquisite interest of human vision, a mutual moving and communication of
human emotions and spirit. For Li Guijun, the restoration of images is not fundamental, but the
visual interest is the essence of painting. In his recent works, the artist has gradually focused
on the expression of the "spirit" and "beauty" of women, and the interpretation of "spirituality"
is exactly what the artist said: "The 'spirit' and 'color' are what I value most in my paintings,
without them there is no life and infectiousness."Major Exhibitions:2001 "2001 Singapore Art
