construct a Wagnerian stage with a certain mystique and symbolism. Qiu Ruixiang is a "quiet"
artist, reluctant to even appear on camera for any kind of media interview. He is also a man
who pays little attention to the outside world. No matter how much the outside world changes,
he maintains an unconcerned attitude and an unhurried pace. Focusing only on his images.
Qiu Ruixiang's works always have a strong contrast between light and dark, as if the
protagonist is placed in the center of a staged scene, a natural narrative filling it, and at the
same time, the unclear and uncertain outline will give the viewer more emotional resonance
and stirring, a blurred and hazy beauty. Faced with the question of why the characters are
blurred, Qiu Ruxiang responded, "I don't think there is a need for clarity. Because I want to
convey something between the two ends of the spectrum; it doesn't really matter where it is.
Qiu Ruxiang does not accept metaphysical arguments and does not think of painting in terms
of the image on the canvas and the consciousness beyond matter, but rather advocates a fluid
and uncertain middle ground between the two. His claim is strikingly similar to Wang Mingju's
"aesthetics of ambiguity", namely, "the ambiguity of beauty and the ambiguous beauty of art,
whose aesthetic concept is indeterminate and fluid". It can be seen that Qiu Ruixiang's works
have long gone beyond the visual game of forms or ordinary beauty, but have entered a deeper,
more mysterious and wider aesthetic world.

Qiu Zhijie was born in 1969 in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, and graduated from the
Printmaking Department of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1992. He currently teaches at
the Department of Integrated Art of China Academy of Art and the Center for the Study of
Exhibition Culture of China Academy of Art. He lives in Beijing and Hangzhou. Group Exhibitions
