Many of his oil paintings are held in collections of art institutions and private collectors both

李桦（1907-1994） 广东番禺人，擅长版画、美术史论、美术教育。1927年毕业于广州市立美术学校，1930年留学日本，
LI HUA 九·一八愤而后回国。1934年在广州组织现代版画会，是响应鲁迅号召的新兴木刻运动的先驱者之一。抗
日战争时期随军流转于湘、赣一带，举办抗战木刻展、出版宣传、推动木刻运动，曾发起和组织全国木刻

界抗敌协会。1947年应徐悲鸿邀请任国立北平艺专教授。投身学生爱国民主运动，作品以传单形式出现在
游行队伍中，如《向炮口要饭吃》、《团结就是力量》。1949年后历任中央美术学院教授、1954年负责组
建版画系并担任版画系主任三十三年，中国美术家协会常务理事、顾问，中国版画家协会主席。

Born in Panyu, Guangdong. Good at printmaking, art history and art education. Graduated

85 from Guangzhou Municipal Art School in 1927, studied in Japan in 1930, and returned to
China in anger after September 18th. In 1934, he organized the Modern Printmaking Society
in Guangzhou and was one of the pioneers of the emerging woodcut movement in response to
Lu Xun's call. During the Anti-Japanese War, he travelled with the army to Hunan and Jiangxi,
held anti-Japanese woodcut exhibitions, published and promoted the woodcut movement,
and initiated and organized the National Woodcut Association to Resist the Enemy. In 1947, at
the invitation of Xu Beihong, he was appointed professor of the National Peking Art College.
After 1949, he successively served as a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1954,
he was responsible for the establishment of the Printmaking Department and served as the
director of the Printmaking Department for 33 years. He is an executive director and consultant
of the Chinese Artists Association and the chairman of the Chinese Printmakers Association.
