of the department in 1937 and the official head of the department from 1940. He was later
transferred to Lanzhou to found the Department of Art, and in 1957 returned to Nanjing Normal
College as head of the Department of Fine Arts. In 1934, he published an article entitled "The
Past and Future of the Art Department", which is a reference for today's art education and was
re-published in full in the bimonthly magazine China Art Education, sponsored by the State
Education Commission, in its third issue in 1992.
Lüsbai mainly taught drawing and oil painting. He asked students to observe carefully, and
whoever substitutes subjectivity for objective reality is bound to be criticized. The Department
of Art offers specialized courses in Chinese painting, Western painting, art history and theory,
arts and crafts, calligraphy, seal engraving, etc. Students can also learn sculpture outside of
class. In order to meet the need to strengthen the training of art teachers, he offered a course
on "teaching methods of drawing". He advocated students to learn woodcut and cartoon.
In October 1949, Lv Spai was ordered to go to Beijing to study at the Institute of Political Studies
of the North China People's Revolutionary University for one year, and then in September 1950
he was assigned to work at the Northwest Normal College in Lanzhou.After seven years of
hard work, the art department of Northwest Normal College, from scratch, a certain scale of
higher education art department, brand new in the northwest of the land, become the cradle
of northwest art education, for the northwest of art education and cultural undertakings have
made remarkable contributions.
He was a member of the Fourth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a member of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society,
deputy director and organization director of the Nanjing Branch of the Jiu San Society and
chairman of the South Division, a member of the Third National People's Congress of Jiangsu
Province, a member of the Third Standing Committee of the Federation of Literary and Art
Circles of Jiangsu Province, an executive director of the Chinese Artists' Association, and vice
chairman of the Jiangsu Branch of the Society.He passed away in January 1973.

Muzi, formerly known as Li Huimin, was born in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1956. Now he is
a member of Zhejiang Artists Association and a member of Zhejiang Oil Painters Association.
He has long been engaged in the research and creation of expressive paintings, and is known
for his oil paintings with rich colors and strong emotions. His Chinese paintings are unique
in composition and heavy in color, with more experimental features and magical style than
traditional paintings. He can skillfully use various colors, and in each painting, various colors
are tensely confronting each other, and then blending in an instant with passion, where the
colors dance wildly and get a thorough exaggeration. Muzi's works have been exhibited at the
National Art Museum of China in Beijing, the Shanghai Art Museum, and in Hong Kong and
Taiwan.
