Born in Montmartre in 1937, Alain Bonnefoit is one of the most highly acclaimed painters of
nudes working today. Bonnefoit entered L'Ecole des Arts Appliqué and L'Ecole des Beaux-
Arts in 1953, before enrolling at the L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Brussels to study Engraving
and Sculpture. Between 1961 and 1963, he worked in the studio of sculptor Antoniucci Volti,
who became his mentor. In 1964, he began creating what would become his signature figure:
the female nude. In 1973, he made his first trip to Japan, where he discovered and studied
the technique of sumi-e. He made repeated visits to the East for further in-depth study and is
now a master of the technique. Throughout his 40-year career, Bonnefoit has experimented
with the most varied means of expression: mixed techniques on canvas, oil painting, original
lithograph and engraving, Sumi-e, and sculpture. He seeks and discovers the sublime beauty
of the female body, capturing its lightness and elegance through simple formal language,
fluid lines rich in Eastern charm, and relief-like colour rendering. Solo Exhibition: 2023, ALAIN

蔡国强(b.1957) 1957年生于福建泉州,1985年毕业于上海戏剧学院舞台美术系,1986年底赴日本留学就读于国立筑波大学
CAI GUOQIANG 综合艺术研究室,1995年移居纽约至今。多年来,蔡国强涉猎了广泛的创作媒介,从绘画、装置、视频艺
术和行为艺术,到虚拟现实等新技术。他的艺术作品以东方哲学和当代社会问题的概念为基础,常对特定

Born in Quanzhou, Fujian in December 1957. In the early 1980s, he was trained in stage design
at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. From December 1986 to September 1995, he sojourned in
Japan for nearly nine years. He studied at Tsukuba University from 1989 to 1991, furthering
his education in the Plastic Art and Mixed Media research lab. Over the years, Cai has worked

with a broad range of creative mediums, from painting, installation, video art, and performance
art, to new technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), NFTs, blockchain,
and artificial intelligence. Grounded in the conceptual foundations of Eastern philosophy and
contemporary social issues, his often site-specific artworks interpret and respond to the local
culture and history, establishing a dialogue between viewers and the larger universe around
them. His famed gunpowder paintings, explosion events, and installations are imbued with a
force that transcends the two-dimensional plane to oscillate freely between society and nature.
As of August 2023, Cai has realized 563 exhibitions and projects on five continents, including 17
curated projects; 12 projects are currently ongoing.
