Joseph Beuys was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1921 and is regarded as one of the most influential
artists of the twentieth century. After World War 2, in which he served as a soldier, Beuys studied
22 sculpture starting in 1947 at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, where he later became a professor
in 1961. Beuys created a diverse body of work ranging from traditional media such as drawing,
painting, and sculpture, to process-oriented, or time-based art. Beuys is especially famous for his
works that incorporate animal fat and felt, two common materials - one organic and one industrial -
that had a profound personal meaning to the artist. He used them as recurring motifs within his art
and suggested that art, common materials, and one’s “everyday life” were inseparable. Beuys was a
key participant in the 1960s Fluxus movement in which artists found themselves turning away from
commercialism in favor of using “found” and “everyday” objects to create time-based “happenings”,
impermanent installation art, and other largely action-oriented events. His work has been collected
widely in Europe and the United States in institutions such as the Hessiches Landesmuseum in
Germany, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) the Walker Art Center, the
Broad Art Foundation, and many more.

詹翀（b.1983） 1983年生于浙江丽水，2006年毕业于清华大学美术学院，现工作生活和工作于北京。詹翀的作品大多以静物为
Zhan Chong 主，画面背景干净纯粹，只有一个放大的物体置于画布中间，跟观者一步之遥，熟悉又疏离。

Born in Lishui, Zhejiang in 1983, Zhan Chong Graduated in 2006 from the School of Fine Arts
at Tsinghua University. Currently, he lives and works in Beijing. Zhan Chong's works mostly
focuses on still life, with a clean and pure background, and an enlarged object placed in the
middle of the canvas making them one step away from the viewer, familiar and distant.
