             张晓刚(b.1958)               1958年出生于昆明。1982年毕业于四川美术学院油画系,现生活工作于北京。从九十年代中期开始,他运

                                       里潜心作画。一有空隙,他就会飞到纽约、巴黎去做访问学者。“汲取各方营养,坚持创造性的衍生,始
                                       终保持高水准的画作,是我真正意义上的成就。”他坦言,“我画得比较慢,一幅画大概要一个月才能完
                                       成。所以我常同时画几幅,以节约时间。有的画我甚至用了两年。”

                                       Born in Kunming in 1958, he graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine
                                       Arts Institute in 1982 and now lives and works in Beijing. Since the mid-1990s, he has been
                                       using the style of modern Chinese pop art to represent the facial portraits of the revolutionary
                                       era, conveying the collective psychological memory and emotions of the times. This typical
                                       presentation and simulation of society, collective as well as family and bloodline is a kind
                                       of reinterpretation, from the perspective of art, emotion and life, and thus has a strong
                                       contemporary significance. He has participated in many art exhibitions both at home and
                                       abroad, and his works have been collected by many art museums, galleries, and private
                                       individuals in China and abroad. His works are the best embodiment of the worldly Chinese
                                       context in which contemporary art is embedded. Today, Zhang Xiaogang still spends much
                                       of his time painting in his studio in Beijing. Whenever he has a gap, he flies to New York and
                                       Paris as a visiting scholar. "Drawing from all sides, insisting on creative derivation and always
                                       maintaining a high standard of painting are my real achievements." He admits, "I paint rather
                                       slowly, and a painting takes about a month to finish. So I often paint several paintings at the
                                       same time to save time. Some paintings I even took two years."
                                       Since the mid-1990s, he has used the style of modern Chinese pop art to represent the face
                                       portraits of the revolutionary era, conveying the collective psychological memory and emotions
                                       of the times. This typical presentation and simulation of society, collective as well as family and
                                       bloodline is a kind of reinterpretation, from the perspective of art, emotion and life, and thus
                                       has a strong contemporary meaning; he was awarded the Asian Contemporary Artist by coutts
                                       International Art Foundation, UK in 1997.
