费成武 (1911-2001） 1911年出生于江苏吴江。1930年考入南京中央大学艺术系，师从徐悲鸿、潘玉良，接受西方写实技法艺术
FEI CHENG-WU 教育。1934年毕业后任教于苏州美专，后任中央艺术大学艺术系副教授。1946年赴英国研究美术，以中国
水墨画创作在英国赢得声誉，其后定居英国，逐渐确立了在英伦画坛的地位。费成武素描以观察准确、刻

画精致、用线到块面几近苛刻。为以后的油画、中国画、图案创作打下了扎实的基础。他刻苦作画，在色
彩纸上用炭笔写生，将徐氏画法运用自如，特别是首创用炭笔与铅笔合成的方法，出奇地表现了虚实的效
果是不多见的。展览：2022年 “星汉灿烂——中国现代美术在重庆（1937-1949）”，四川美术学院，重

Born in 1911 in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province, Fei Chengwu was admitted to the Art Department of
the Central University of Nanjing in 1930, where he studied under Xu Beihong and Pan Yuliang
and received an art education in Western realistic techniques, and after graduating in 1934,

Lot 168 he taught at the Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and then became an associate professor at the
Art Department of the Central University. 1946, he went to England to study fine art, where
he gained fame for his Chinese ink paintings and subsequently settled in the UK, gradually
establishing a position in the British painting scene. Afterwards, he settled in England and
gradually established his position in the British painting world. Chengwu's sketches are
characterised by accurate observation, delicate drawing and almost harsh use of line and
block. He laid a solid foundation for his later oil painting, Chinese painting and pattern creation.
He painstakingly painted, sketching with charcoal on colour paper, applying Xu Beihong's
drawing method freely, especially the first method of using charcoal and pencil synthesis,
surprisingly showing the effect of reality and falsehood is uncommon. Exhibition: 2022 "Starry

关良 (1900-1986） 1900年出生于广东省番禺县南亭镇。1917-1922年留学日本，先后入川端研究所、太平洋画会师从藤岛武二
GUAN LIANG 和中村不折学西洋画。1923年在上海私立神州女校和上海东方艺术研究会任教素描；参加"天马会"第六届
画展。1930-1940年先后在武昌艺专、广州市立美专、上海美专、四川成都技艺专科学校任教。1942年在

成都及重庆举办个展，首次大量展出戏剧人物画，郭沫若在《中央日报》载文盛赞。1945年与丁衍镛、倪
贻德、陈士文、周碧初、唐云、朱屺瞻、钱鼎及宋铭沅在上海组成“九人画会”。1946年国立杭州艺专任
教。1956年文化部在北京举办"关良个人画展"，数天之中观者如潮。1957年与李可染由中央文化部派往东
德访问，并在柏林科学院举办画展。1960-1981年先后担任中国美术家协会理事、上海美术家协会副主席、
上海文史馆馆员、上海中国画院画师、浙江美术学院教授及上海文联委员会等职。1978年与刘海粟畅游桂
林，回沪后创作一批描绘桂林山水和水墨京剧人物画。出版有《关良艺事随谈》《关良回忆录》，画集有
Lot 158 《关良京剧人物水墨画》《关良戏剧人物水墨画册》《关良油画集》等。

Excelled in traditional Chinese painting and oil painting. Born in Nanting, Panyu, Guangdong,
in 1900. Went to Japan to study oil painting in 1917 and became first a student of Fujishima
Takeji at Kawabata Painting Studio and then a student of Nakamura Fusetsu at Tokyo Pacific
Art School. Returned to China in 1923 to become professor at Shanghai Academy of Art. Took
part in the Northern Expedition. Taught at art schools in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chongqing
between the 1930s and 1940s and painted from life at various scenic spots. Taught at Zhejiang
Academy of Fine Arts and painted for Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy after 1949.
